Paeonia suffruticosa ssp. rockii type

$12.00

Going into the 3rd season from seed. This species from the mountains of China has a long history of cultivation in that country, being one of the parents of the revered tree peonies (The ‘King of Flowers’). The ‘rockii’ types (usually referred to as just Paeonia rockii, are characterized by the large ruffled petals, about 10 per flower, each with a large dark purple, almost black, blotch at the base. The petals can be pure white, pale pink, or shades of purple. Not sure of the exact botanical designation of these seedlings we are offering, nor can we guarantee the color, as the parents were a mix of colors, white, pinks and purples. So while I suspect hybrid origin, it doesn’t really matter, as they are all beautiful. They are a woody type that ultimately grows to about 7 feet, with more and lusher flowers each season. Plant in full sun to very light shade, in rich soil that drains well. These are grown in 2” wide by x 5” tall pots, and will be shipped in their pots.
