First, a sinister flower, with a dark brown spath and a skinny blackish maroon spadix emerges at ground level. Kind of foul scented, unless of course you are a fly in which case you can't get enough of it, thinking that there must be something dead in there. Now this may not be the best way to sell a plant, but it is a cool oddity and the smell only last for a day or 2. Then, fan-like leaves on mottled stems, to 3’ tall, emerge in late spring/early summer. Best in light shade or morning sun, good drainage. Tehy emerge late, so if shipped early, before the roots start growing, it will be sent as a bare root tuber. z5.
